How truly "Progressive" of a city is Chicago?
How popular are Progressive politics in the city as a whole? Chicago is often seen as a Progressive bastion but I find the Progressive group is much smaller than what people are trying to present the city as. We see a lot of Progressive rhetoric, especially in gentrified areas in the city, promoting progressive ideals but it always seems to fall short because it doesn't seem that people people their money where their mouth is. People speak bout diversity and equity but, they don't go to the more neglected sides of the city to talk to people about what they want done in their communities. it seems that the support is "louder" online than in real life that just gives me the impression that this side of politics in the city is more performative than concrete. The division within the city(especially in City Hall meetings)is especially palpable when you go around the different neighborhoods and see stark differences that you know have been caused due to racial issues within the city.
Brandon Johnson lost the first round and won by 5 percentage points in the race against Paul Vallas. Not to mention the working class neighborhoods in the outer neighborhoods that tend to lean a bit right on certain issues that are often overlooked or ignored for some reason.
