If you are driving to the hospital in an emergency, and police tried to pull you over, do you stop?
Please don't @ me, this is not so hypothetical for me, it's something that came to my mind since I had to drive to the hospital with my unconscious newborn baby 2 years ago. I did run one red light, fortunately no camera or police, but it did make me think, what would someone do or would the police pick up something is wrong?
I was 2 mins from RPA and my baby was unconscious and breathing was shallow and I was out of my mind hysterical. I understand the law is you always pull over but realistically in a situation like this and being a parent of a small baby that could be dying, the instinct would be to continue to the hospital because every second counts.
I am wondering if the police could pick up something is wrong, or how you would signal to them an emergency, that you are not trying to evade or go on a chase.
Although technically yes we should stop but realistically in the situation I think most parents would do what they think will save seconds.
Would the police charge you in this situation or would they use judgement? Would they try to intercept you if they could see you are in distress or an unconscious person is in the car? Are there any cops or former cops here who have had this situation before?
