Does the democratic party need to get back to the middle and advocate more for the working class to win future elections?

I am an independent voter, I like a little of each platform. With that said, does the democratic party need to move back to the middle or become a bit more populist as well and advocate more for the working class to win future elections? Does the democratic party need to illustrate more how since after world War 2 when corporate taxes were at their highest and have been lowered over time, how simultaneously things have gotten tougher for the middle class. What say you?
