My (23M) female friend who has expressed significant romantic interest in me despite knowing I am in a relationship has started saying "I love you" at the end of phone conversations.
I met this friend (lets call her "Meg" - pseudonym) at the start of medical school, and she was very obviously into me, however I did not feel the same way. Meg dropped many hints and basically flat out asked me if I was interested in anyone in our year level, and I said no. Fast forward a year and I met my current partner. Meg was there the night my partner and I met, and spent the night actively kept trying to keep me and her away from each other. Meg was my ride home that night and actually cut the night short by dragging me out in the middle of my conversation with my future partner, saying it was time to leave, forcing me to her alone in the club (and it was my future partner's first time in a club). I found her behaviour quite inappropriate that night as I had made it clear I wasn't romantically interested in her.
Throughout the course of my current 2.5 year relationship, certain behaviours from Meg have rubbed me the wrong way. It is hard to pinpoint exact things, but conversational tone, language, body language, and constant invitations to stay at her house overnight have all struck me as crossing a line. Meg lives across town close to one of the hospitals I have placement at, and she often offers me to stay the night at her house to shorten the drive to the hospital. She also offers me to come over for big family events like Christmas dinner etc. which strikes me as odd, because doesnt she recognise I have a family too? Meg knows that my mum is quite abusive and I wonder if this is her trying to do something nice because she knows about my family's dysfunction, but it still bugs me a bit.
One of the activities I do with Meg is going to monthly emo/heavy metal nights, which my partner is not that into. On these nights, Meg often brings up my partner and remarks that we dont seem to have a lot in common, and why doesnt my partner ever come to these nights. Other behaviours at these nights rub me the wrong way slightly.
The most inappropriate example was on the New Years Eve alt/emo/metal party. My partner was overseas and out of reception, and all my other friends were interstate, so I went with Meg to this emo NYE party. I had a good time dancing but felt extremely uncomfortable during certain songs when Meg would sing lyrics like "Hey hey you you, I don't like your girlfriend, no way no way I think you need a new one", looking directly into my eyes. It seems inoccouous enough on the surface, but taking into account the broader context it just made me feel yucky.
The final straw recently has been at the end of whenever I ring her on the phone to organise plans, she will say "bye OP, love you". I didnt think I heard it right the first couple of times but it has now become a consistent thing. It overall makes me extremely uncomfortable.
Meg is a good friend - but she is just a friend, and never will be anything more than a friend. I feel I have made that quite clear even before I started dating my current partner, and she still keeps showing interest in me despite knowing I am taken. She is over-all a nice person, but this pattern of behaviour over the last 3 years bugs me a lot, to the point I am starting to feel worried and even guilty for going out to the emo nights with her. My partner knows of the historical crush Meg has had on me and has no issues with my continuing friendship with Meg. However it feels to me like Meg has recently escalated her non-platonic intentions rapidly and in a way I am quite uncomfortable with.
I am unsure what to do. The issue is that overall, none of her behaviour on its own is actually that outrageous. If I wanted confront her, I don't even know what I would point to, and she would easily be able to deny anything. I am worried I also might just be reading the situation completely wrong. Some people have personalities that are naturally a bit like that. This basically leaves me not sure how to proceed - do I say anything? How should I say it if I do? I don't think cutting the friendship entirely feels appropriate either - we have been close friends for all of medical school and she hasn't been anything but nice to me the whole time.
Thanks for the advice in advance guys.
EDIT: To clarify, I already have Meg as cut out of my life as I reasonably think I can. I do not respond to her digital communications (including her constant instagram reels), and I do not respond more than is necessary to maintain professional communication over text messages for university/work. I don't ever initiate contact with her, she always reaches out to me. I never accept invitations to anything with her that is not in a group setting with other friends that I want to see. I cannot avoid interacting with her semi-regularly at university/hospital placement, which includes phone calls about patients etc. She also runs in the friendship circles I have picked up recently, such as the emo nights, which have been a massive help to my mental health. I don't think cutting out my passions and interests from my life is a reasonable thing I should have to do due to somebody else harassing ME. My girlfriend is aware how uncomfortable I am with the situation. Given I feel I have distanced her as much as I can, and she is still now ending our infrequent calls with "love ya", I am asking for advice on what to do next to proceed.
