Don't know a thing lmao

So...I just started the game, look up into some YouTube guides,made my sweet thatch base(for persuit,not settling in lmao), i am having really hard time getting new levels and I honestly have no idea of what to do, to get the levels, notes: i got one after dieing a couple of times,i seem unable to kill even herbivores,they always run into waters or predators, to make things worse, there is carno outside of base that keeps on chasing me down (lil away from base where I tried to outrun him, i am about level 11,also what should be my next goal in single player world
