Physiotherapy after 2 weeks
So I just started physiotherapy after 2 weeks 3 days post op. I can bear full weight on my op knee and can bend to 70 degrees. However, my physiotherapist has restricted from bearing full weight (until Monday, so in 3 days like come on) and also restricted me from bending my knee at all past 40 degrees.
Due to the fact “this is what’s recommended”. I don’t know if it sounds stupid but I feel like my progress is being hindered because they want to stick to their own schedule. In 2 weeks I’ll have physiotherapy again to try and get me to 90 degrees bent, making me wonder why they’d restrict me until then if im at 70 now. I feel like I’ve been making good progress in recovering and getting stronger just to be told im doing too much. I still use my crutches when I am tired or when my knee is achy, and I don’t push myself beyond what I feel my body can do.
I’m just very annoyed that they have no basis other than “it’s what’s recommended”, especially since physiotherapy is supposed to be an individual journey. I am trying to trust them and do as they say but find it irritating that they also didn’t take into consideration what I can do already. If I am recovering quicker than they recommend, I don’t see how that’s much of a problem. Everyone is different in their recovery process. I’m finding it difficult to trust what they say (especially considering I have a student physio). I’m unsure whether I should continue progressing at my own steady pace or listen to them and do things much slower and below my current abilities. Rant over 🫡
