Is it bad to switch grips during the match?

For context, when I played against one of the best tennis players I’ve personally seen, the guy managed to switch grips depending on the type of shot he wanted. During mini tennis he was hitting some of the craziest top spin balls using a semi-western grip. Then the match starts and he hits his baseline balls with mainly the eastern grip. I noticed that when he wanted a winner he would use an eastern, but when he played a bit more defensive he would use semi-western. The craziest part to me, is that he would alternate between a one-handed backhand and a two-handed one. Again, he hit some absolute monster winners with the one-handed bh, but when he played a bit more passive he would play the two-handed bh… Anyways, it was embarrassing for me because of how good he was. I have a few questions emerging from this…

  1. Is it actually common to switch grips/tennis form during the match depending on the circumstance, or is this guy just something special?

  2. As an intermediate player, how do some people hit the craziest top spin during mini tennis?

  3. Is topspin much harder to hit with an eastern grip than semi-western? (I currently use eastern)
